I made this recipe up one random Wednesday night. My husband was gone all night for work, a new episode of Revenge was on, I had a bottle of red wine that had been opened for a few days and about to go bad, so I took it has a sign to make Sangria! I’m one of those people who is what I like to call a “seasonal drinker”. No I do not drink during one season of the year(I enjoy cocktails year round thank you), but in the summer I want cold drinks and in the winter I want hot drinks. So on this unseasonably hot Spring day, I decided to make Sangria(warm red wine did not sound appetizing)
Sangria is one of those drinks that people think you have to buy all sorts of ingredients for, but its really not necessary. You can use what you have, using red wine as the base, I added a splash of orange juice(you could use cranberry, apple, or just omit this if you don’t have any), I used Meyer Lemons for the citrus but lemon or lime would work too. Then I used Stevia for my all natural and(huge bonus right here) calorie free sweetner. Took some grapes that were in my freezer, cut up an apple and added it all to the glass, then topped it with some soda water(for the bubbly, and it adds volume to the drink without adding calories) and mint leaves(looked pretty)! I’m not gonna lie it tasted a lot better than I was expecting 🙂
Mix it all into a glass of your choice and enjoy!!! Cheers!
A quick note about Stevia. Some stevia can taste very bitter, and have an almost medicinal taste. I wasn’t hooked on Stevia until I found NuNaturals . A little goes a long way, so when using it start off with a little you can always add more! NuNaturals can be found at Whole Foods, Amazon.com, iherb.com, and various other places. Defiantly worth the buy!
