Almond Milk-4 ways

Health Coach Confession: I can be pretty lazy when it comes to trying new things that I know will improve my health. Like everyone else I get busy and life gets hectic and adding a new habit into the mix can seem overwhelming.

One thing I’ve always been lazy about is making my own almond milk.  Until recently it just seemed like such a hassle and it’s so convenient to buy it at the store.  One reservation I’ve had about buying almond milk from the store is how hard it is(pretty much impossible) to find almond milk that doesn’t carry an extremely dangerous cancer forming chemical called carrageenan.  Carrageenan turns into a carcinogen once it hits your GI tract, which essentially makes it a substance that causes cancer.  Even organic non dairy milk brands like Pacific Almond Milk carry this dangerous chemical and since I drink almond milk so often its not something I want to put in my body.  Read more about carrageenan and it’s damaging effects on Food Babes Blog here.

I first got hooked on making almond milk when I tasted my first batch of fresh homemade milk.  It was unlike any other almond milk I’ve bought in a store.  The process to make it was much easier then I expected. I usually can’t drink almond milk plain, I have to mix it in with something.  But the fresh homemade kind isn’t comparable to the store bought brands. The taste is like night and day, so pick a recipe below and let me know which one you like! You will not be disappointed.
